The University of Piraeus recently announced the establishment of the first Department of Tourism Studies, in an effort to promote research in the field and provide students with sufficient education on tourism and hospitality.
“The University’s Tourism Department carefully monitors the constantly changing trends and will continue to adjust its academic program, in order for our graduates to acquire the best possible education and knowledge,” said Professor Nikolaos Georgopoulos, President of the Department of Tourism Studies. “Our academics, students and – in a few years – our graduates will constitute a network of people, which will set the highest leadership standards in the global tourism industry,” he added.
The new department’s academic program focuses on tourism finances, management, human resources, logistics, marketing and new technologies, among other subjects. It is also based on three axes, namely the preservation of the environment, the sustainable management of tourism organizations and innovation.
