It’s All So Sweet… @ Athens’ 8th Greek Honey Festival
Just in time for the holiday season with all its honey-based sweets, the 8th Honey & Bee Products Festival kicks off today through to December 4 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Neo Faliro.
The annual event casts the spotlight on the world lauded Greek honey, its byproducts and its uses, bringing more than 250 honey producers from across Greece and its islands, experts, chefs, amateurs, and connoisseurs together for three days of events including seminars, honey tasting happenings, children’s shows, cooking, pastry-making and bee-keeping demonstrations as well as workshops.
The event this year will introduce visitors for the first time to rare varieties of honey produced in Greece. The aim of the largest industry event is to promote local honey production and honey bee products, their nutritional and health benefits as well as their considerable trade/export potential.
Consumers, meanwhile, will have the chance to sample and buy honey and products such as traditional pasteli or honey-soaked sweets, Cretan spirit raki with honey (rakomelo), honey-based lotions and many more traditionally produced items.
Participants include companies active in production, processing and standardization of honey, bee and wax products enterprises, beekeeping, packaging and standardization equipment manufacturers, cooperatives producing honey and hive products.
For the kiddies, special activities focusing on the world of bees and their magic will be taking place throughout the event.
Opening hours: today – 4pm-9pm; Saturday – 10am-9pm; Sunday – 10am-8pm.
