Presidents of chambers of commerce and a number of tourism professionals in Central Greece decided last week to launch a supra-local organization that will work towards attracting more flights and new airlines to the Nea Anchialos National Airport (IATA: VOL).
According to an announcement by the Chamber of Commerce of Fthiotida, the Nea Anchialos airport, which serves the city of Volos, has the potential to become the main force to boost tourism and develop the economy of Central Greece.
The presidents of the chambers of commerce of Viotia, Evia, Evritania, Karditsa, Larissa, Magnesia, Pieria, Trikala, Fthiotida, Fokida and chairmen of local hotel associations attended a meeting in Lamia on Wednesday where they presented the organization’s strategy and discussed its marketing plan.
According to the Fthiotida chamber, when the organization is officially established it will make efforts to attract more flights and new airlines to the Nea Anchialos airport, create attractive packages for visitors and also monitor competing regions.
The main targets set by the chambers and professionals include extending the tourism season in Central Greece, increasing arrivals and tourism revenue and boosting visitor satisfaction.
The chambers and hoteliers are planning to present the organization and its business plan in one month and have called for the attendance of all those directly or indirectly involved in tourism.
