Crowdfunding for ‘Athena’ Model Contest on Agistri Kicks Off

Putting euro and political woes aside, the tiny Greek Saronic isle of Agistri is ready to make up for lost time and money by hosting the ‘Athena’ Model Contest and doing business in digital cash.

Backed by local sector professionals, the municipality, the local tourism board, digital currency players Nautiluscoin, Coinstructors and Jetcoin, as well as E-Model World and Ikon Media, the “Athena” project, will enable international agencies to recruit promising Greek models and develop their careers globally.

“Athena” is currently crowdfunding for 450,000 GPB on fundraising site Indiegogo, and shooting is expected to start at the end of September.

The Athena initiative is part of a larger project being hosted and tested out on Agistri, aiming to boost local business while marketing the island as an unspoilt tourist destination.

The three winners will receive prizes worth 10,000 euros in cryptocurrency, which can be used for purchases or redeemed in gold.

Home to some 1,000 permanent residents and less than hour from the port of Piraeus, Agistri is an ideal destination while on a break in Athens.

Organizers are hoping that if the Agistri case is successful, then it could be applied across the country. They invite people to spread the word about the campaign on social media. For more on “Athena”, press here.
