HATTA Joins Forces With Public Sector For School Tourism
The development of school tourism to Greek students and students of abroad through the promotion of Greece as a student destination with attractive package offers, was recently the topic of discussion between the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs.
According to HATTA’s President Yiorgos Telonis, the meeting was the start of the “Let’s Go Greece” initiative that aims to create incentives for Greek schools and schools abroad to visit domestic destinations through quality programs.
The initiative is hoped to increase the students’ interest for long visits to Greece and contribute to regional development.
In recent years Greece has lost a substantial share of the school trip market as Greek students began to travel abroad more and more for school trips while foreign students reduced their visits.
In regards to the joint initiative between the public and private sector, the education ministry would be responsible for the organizational side, the culture and tourism ministry would highlight the country as a destination and HATTA would offer travel packages to serve the students’ needs.
