GNTO Hosts Foreign Journalists on Kefalonia to Promote Diving Tourism
A group of ten journalists from abroad will highlight Greece’s features as a diving destination in the foreign media, within the framework of the Tourism Ministry’s plan to promote the country as a 365-day a year destination.
The journalists, who will arrive from the UK, Germany, Denmark and Poland, are participating in a familiarization trip organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
While in Greece the journalists will attend a special event on the island of Kefalonia in the Ionian sea, dedicated to the shipwrecks of World War II. The event will be held between October 25-30 in the village of Skala in collaboration with the GNTO, the Region of the South Aegean and the private sector.
It is the second time the GNTO is supporting the event on Kefalonia, as part of its efforts to enhance Greece’s image as an ideal diving destination to the European market and to attract more visitors.
Diving tourism has been rapidly developing around the world, with 25 million self-reliant divers, trips of 7-10-days of stay on average and annual revenue of 3.5-5 billion euros, according to estimations by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The GNTO in 2018 is planning to participate in two international exhibitions on diving tourism: The “Boot” exhibition on boating and water sports to be held between January 20-28 in Düsseldorf, Germany and the Dema Diving Show to be held in November 2018 in Las Vegas, USA.
