Dimitrios Buhalis Elected Vice Chairman of UNWTO Affiliate Members
Professor Dimitrios Buhalis has been elected as one of the Vice Chairmen of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Affiliate Members.
A strategic management and marketing expert, Professor Buhalis is currently serving as head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, director of the eTourism Lab and deputy director of the International Center for Tourism and Hospitality Research at the Bournemouth University in the UK.
“I look forward to work closely with colleagues and organisations from around the world,” Professor Buhalis wrote on his social media accounts, regarding his new position.
Professor Buhalis has previously worked at the Universities of Surrey, Westminster and the Aegean whilst he had visiting appointments at ESSEC in France, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China, University of Aveiro, Portugal, and the Modul University in Vienna, Austria.
He is widely regarded as an expert in the impacts of ICTs in the tourism industry, the management of tourism distribution channels as well as in strategic tourism marketing and management.
He was also the President of the International Federation of Information Technology for Travel and Tourism (IFITT) for the period 2010-2014.
Professor Buhalis is researching, lecturing, advising and facilitating progress in organisations globally, whilst his books and publications are studied widely by both students and professionals around the world.
The Affiliate Members of UNWTO include companies (public or private), organizations, destinations, NGOs, educational institutions or bodies, whose activities are related to tourism.
