TripAdvisor Ranks Acropolis Museum Among Best in World and Europe

The Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece, is the ninth best in the world, according to travel website TripAdvisor’s annual Travelers’ Choice awards for museums announced on Tuesday.

Travelers’ Choice awards honor top travel spots worldwide based on the millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travelers.

The 2016 list ranks the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the best in the world.

On the list of Europe’s top 25 museums for 2016, the Acropolis Museum was placed in the fifth place.

The State Hermitage Museum and Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, came in first place.

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for museums worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

“From awe-inspiring art galleries to thought-provoking memorials, Travelers’ Choice Museums provide enlightening experiences whether a traveler is visiting for the first time or the fiftieth,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor.
