Icarus Festival 2016: August Shows and Concerts
The 11th Icarus Festival on the North Eastern Aegean island of Ikaria continues its summer program in August with a series of shows and concerts.
The festival, which launched in late June, this year brings together musical movements from different parts of the world.
Visitors to the island will have the chance to hear sounds from Tunisia and the Mediterranean Sea offered by Lamia Bedioui & The Desert Fish on August 1 (Afianes Winery, Prophet Ilias) and August 2 (Agios Kirikos municipal cinema).
Next on the list is “Belle Epoque”, an imaginative music match between the past and present by Mariza Rizou on August 5 (Afianes Winery, Prophet Ilias).
Thodoros Kotonias and Makrina Xaderfia will put on a show for the lovers of Greek traditional music on August 8 (Agios Kirikos municipal cinema) and August 9 (Afianes Winery, Prophet Ilias).
On August 19, Paschalis Tonios and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Agios Kirikos will give a tribute to Mikis Theodorakis’ music at the Agios Kirikos municipal cinema.
The festival’s program continues with the presentation of Theologos Kappos’ music album “Window to the Street” on August 23 (Afianes Winery, Prophet Ilias) and August 24 (Agios Kirikos, Kouzino).
The 11th Icarus Festival also includes the photography exhibition “The Touch” by Christos Malahias in collaboration with àrtεις; fest 2015 – Days of Modern Ikarian Art Creativity to take place at Agios Kirikos (August 5-12).
Also, new Ikarian fairytales by local authors will be shared (in Greek) during the book presentation of “Kirasoleni” at the open air cinema in Evdilos on August 10.
The festival wraps up on September 16 with a tribute to bouzouki soloist George Tsibidas at Karavostamo.
