World Tourism Day 2014: Message By The General Panhellenic Federation of Tourism Enterprises (GEPOET)

Kostas Palaskonis, president of GEPOET.

GEPOET President Kostas Palaskonis

“This year’s World Tourism Day coincides with Greece’s return amongst the most popular tourism destinations, earlier than our expectations.

A series of positive tributes and articles shined the global spotlight on our country with an aim to redefine a destination which was reborn from its ashes.

This achievement came as a result of hard work between tourism professionals and the continuous professional communication, both domestically and internationally, and for this we should all feel proud.

However, we can’t afford to be complacent on the planning for the years to come. International competition has intensified, new tourism traditions have formed and the bar of expectations and demands for high quality has been set even higher.

We all, therefore, both private and public sectors, must meet the high demands of our guests and always do the best so the level of offered services is excellent on all levels.

Having a unique natural and cultural wealth in our hands, which is constantly evolving and embellishing after the recent archaeological discoveries and having a sense of responsibility and genuine hospitality towards our guests, we can only be optimistic. The best days for the country’s tourism and the national economy are right in front of us and the coveted development is the only way.

We must rise to the occasion and make a double effort, with respect to the environment and our history.”
