Amadeus Signs Up Romanian Carrier TAROM
Amadeus, the travel industry technology provider and leading Global Distribution System (GDS), announced that TAROM, Romania’s national airline, has successfully moved its sales and reservations to Amadeus Altea Sell.
The implementation comes at a key time in the expansion of the Central, Eastern and Southern Europe (CESE) region, where Amadeus processes 57% of travel agency air bookings.
The region is home to half a billion people, and includes fast-growing economies. Romania’s gross domestic product per head, for example, grew on average 8.3% each year between 2000 and 2003 . This combination spells opportunity for the travel industry.
Amadeus estimates that by 2020 there will be more arrivals in Eastern than Western Europe.
By adopting Altea Sell, TAROM is perfectly positioned to take advantage of growth.
The airline will share the IT platform for sales and reservations with another 148 airlines and over 66,000 travel agents worldwide. Altea Sell offers the following benefits:
Travel agents access the same flight and fares information and passenger records as the airline’s own sales teams, meaning that bookings are confirmed immediately.
TAROM is able to place emphasis on the distribution channel that best suits its customers’ needs, increasing customer loyalty.
TAROM can develop commercial partnerships with any of the 148 other airlines using Altea Sell without developing any technology.
“Amadeus Altea Sell is the only outsourced reservation system integrated with a GDS operating in 217 markets around the world. That makes it the perfect solution to drive TAROM’s growth through this exciting period in the region’s history,” says David Doctor, Director, Airline Marketing & Sales, Amadeus.
According to Aurelia Fulger, TAROM Vice President Marketing and Sales, “Altea Sell will boost our distribution and will allow us to “speak the same language” not only with most of our travel agents, but also with the great majority of our airline partners, including future alliance partners.”
TAROM is the 14th carrier in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe to adopt Amadeus’ industry-leading technology to boost their commercial strategies. These include Malev, JAT Yugoslav Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Montenegro Airlines, Slovak Airlines, Adria Airways, Aero Airlines, Aerosvit Airlines, Air Astana, Air Baltic International and Smart Wings.
