Porto Rio Renews Image
Patra’s Porto Rio Hotel celebrated its rejuvenation last month. Owners spent some two billion drachmas to give the unit a complete new image, not just a facelift. The only thing familiar to previous hotel guests is the unique view to the sea.
All 135 rooms and 35 suites have been completely refurbished and redecorated in the luxurious fashion due to any deluxe hotel unit, as has the unit’s lobby and reception areas. The hotel unit’s outside area now sports one of the most beautiful landscapes created by local specialists.
Dimitris Saltapidas, the hotel’s manager and 12-year Porto Rio veteran, says special emphasis has been placed on winter weekends and year-round conference tourism – the hotel has a 400-delegate and 100-delegate hall as well as break out rooms. “Our conference areas are built to the highest standards so as to cover the demanding needs of our times,” he says.
Other additions to the ‘new’ hotel include an up-market fitness club. Needless to say, the unit’s casino section got a thorough going over. Now undergoing renovation is the “motel” section of the hotel, some 50 meters from the hotel, which will be completed in January. This will be followed by complete renovation and refurbishing of the resort’s 48 bungalows.
