GNTO: Trips by Cypriots to Greece Up by 9% in January-March
The number of trips from Cyprus to Greece in the first quarter of 2024 increased by nine percent, compared to the same period last year, according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
Meanwhile, leading Cypriot tour operators inform that bookings for Easter and summer are moving at high levels.
The figures come on the back of the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) participation in the 25th International Tourism Exhibition, “Travel Expo Cyprus 2024”, held in Nicosia from April 19 to 21.
GNTO’s co-exhibitors included the regional authorities of Central Greece, the Ionian Islands, Epirus, the North Aegean, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia- Thrace as well as the municipalities of Volos and Mykonos. Representatives from the newly established Greek cruise company Neonyx Cruises of Seajets also attended.
During the exhibition, the GNTO delegation held B2B meetings with airline representatives and leading tourism companies in Cyprus.
Among the highlights of Greece’s participation in the expo was the collaboration announced between the Municipality of Alexandroupolis and Cypriot tourism organization Top Kinisis Travel for the launch of weekly charter flights from Larnaca to the city of Thrace during July and August.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the Region of Central Greece and its AgriFood Partnership organized an event to promote local products and wines. Also, the Region of Epirus with the GNTO’s Cypriot branch held a music and dance performance with the Brotherhood of Epirus, “Olympias”.
The tourism exhibition was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cyprus, Konstantinos Koumis. The minister and the Greek ambassador in Nicosia, Yiannis Papameletiou, visited the Greek pavilion, where they met with the head of the GNTO Cyprus, Petros Saganas, and other co-exhibitors.
Travel Expo Cyprus, formerly known as”TAXIDI Exhibition”, is organized every year by the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents and Display Art Group of Companies, aiming to provide information on available packages and destination options to the public. “Travel Expo Cyprus 2024” saw the participation of 44 exhibitors (companies and organizations) and welcomed over 10,000 visitors.
