PNO: No Ferries in Greece on April 17 Due to Strike
The Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced that it will participate in the 24-hour strike called by the General Confederation of Greek Labor (GSEE) on Wednesday, April 17.
The strike, which will involve ships of all categories, will begin at 00:01 and end at 24:00. The seamen’s federation is holding the strike mainly in protest of the high cost of living and is demanding for the government deal with inflation.
“Greek seamen, due to the peculiarities of the maritime profession, are among the first to face the effects of high prices because they are the only ones who work, at best, five or six months a year to support themselves and their families for the whole year,” PNO said in an announcement, pointing out that the unemployment benefits for its members are “very low”.
Travelers that have booked ferry tickets for Wednesday are advised to check with their travel agents or contact local port authorities for further information.
