Greece Sees Travel Package Sales from Denmark Up for 2024
Greece is once again at the top of the bucket lists of Danish travelers, according to feedback collected by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) during the “Ferie For Alle 2024” exhibition that recently took place in Herning, Denmark.
According to data by the GNTO, 499,784 Danish tourists visited Greece last year, up by 30.89 percent compared to 381.837 visitors in 2022.
Additionally, based on data provided by the Nordic tour operator Apollo, package sales to Greek destinations for 2024 are already up by 5 percent compared to 2023.
Profile of Danish tourists
Over 55,500 people attended this year’s Ferie For Alle 2024, while sales during the fair exceeded those of the previous year, according to the exhibition’s organizer, MCH Messecenter Herning.
The majority of visitors on the first day of the exhibition were “silver travelers”, mainly retirees of over 60 years old that travel two and three times a year. The second and third days of the expo attracted a mixed audience that included young couples and families with children.
According to the GNTO, the majority of visitors to the Greek stand were repeater visitors – travelers that had visited Greece many times and who would like to return, as it is “the most popular destination for Danes”.
A high percentage of visitors were looking for new destinations in mainland Greece, in addition to island destinations. Furthermore, they were seeking information about special forms of tourism and nature activities such as hiking, biking, wellness tourism and gastronomy.
During the exhibition, representatives of leading tour operators including Ving, MixxTravel, BravoTours and PrimoTours also confirmed the increase in bookings for Greek destinations compared to the previous year.
Co-exhibitors to the GNTO’s stand included the regions of Central Macedonia and of the Ionian Islands, and the Halkidiki Tourism Organization. Representatives of the Municipality of Sitia (Crete) were also hosted at the organization’s pavilion for B2B meetings and promotion of the destination.
