PLAY to Start Athens-Reykjavík Direct Flights Earlier this Year
PLAY Airlines will launch flights from Athens earlier this year, an announcement by Iceland’s low-cost carrier said on Wednesday.
The Icelandic airline will connect the Greek capital directly with Reykjavík, Iceland, and from there with destinations in the United States and Canada as of March 24.
PLAY will operate two weekly flights from Athens to Iceland, with departures scheduled for Sundays and Wednesdays
Passengers traveling on PLAY from Athens International Airport (AIA) to Reykjavik Keflavik (KEF), Iceland, can connect to four US cities: New York, Boston, Washington DC, and Baltimore. Additionally, passengers can seamlessly connect to Toronto, Canada, via Iceland.
‘Stopover stay’ in Iceland at no extra cost
Also, as of this year, PLAY will be offering travelers the option to make a “stopover stay” in Iceland at no extra cost and thus visit two countries in one trip.
According to the company’s new CEO, Einar Örn Ólafsson, the stopovers take advantage of the airline’s “hub-and-spoke” model, with all flights connecting via Iceland.
“PLAY has taken advantage of Iceland’s location near Europe to bring travelers convenient flights and affordable fares, and now the stopover feature brings even more benefits to our passengers,” Ólafsson said.
The option offered by PLAY allows passengers to stay up to 10 days in Iceland to experience the destination.
“Rather than having a few hours layover in Iceland, travelers can make a stop at this bucket-list destination for an extra day or week to experience everything our home country has to offer. Extended stayovers are a win-win for both us and our passengers to enable exploration at a low price,” he added.
Since its maiden flight in June 2021, PLAY has rapidly expanded its fleet to a total of 10 Airbus A320/321neo aircraft, with an average age of the aircraft is little over two years.
Last year, PLAY´s crew was voted the best by the readers of USA Today 10Best and recognized as the top low-cost airline in Northern Europe by the prestigious World Airline Awards, based on customer satisfaction.
