Chania Airport Completes Partial-scale Emergency Drill
A partial-scale emergency exercise was successfully completed at Chania Airport “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” with the participation of various government and airport services that would be involved in an actual crisis.
Carried out by the airport’s operator Fraport Greece, the exercise scenario concerned an incident on ground involving an aircraft. With the event’s occurrence, the airport’s Emergency Response Plan was immediately activated, with the simultaneous initiation of relevant operational procedures.
Specifically, actions were taken for the rescue, provision of first aid on the scene and the evacuation of passengers, in excellent coordination among the involved bodies.
The purpose of the exercise was to evaluate and potentially improve the operational response level to such an event. Mainly, it aimed to analyze the collaboration and interoperability of the involved airport services and local response agencies in addressing such an emergency.
The exercise saw the participation of Fraport Greece personnel, the Hellenic Air Force (115 Combat Wing), the Hellenic Police, the Fire Brigade, the National Center for Emergency Assistance (EKAB) and bodies involved from the airport, such as the ground handling service provider and the security services provider.
