Greek Tourism Ministry Announces ‘Fast Learning’ Program for Tourist Guides
A new “fast learning” training program that will provide certification for tourist guides will begin on Crete in March, the Greek Tourism Ministry announced on Friday.
The announcement follows a ministerial decision signed by Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.
The new training program will be held between March 7 and May 2 at the facilities of the University of Crete in Rethymno and Heraklion. Similar programs have already launched at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Ionian University on Corfu, while another is expected to launch at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
According to Minister Kefalogianni, there is “high interest” for the tourist guide profession in Greece.
“This is particularly important for Greek tourism, as the large increase in tourists that choose our country makes the need for more professionals with a meticulous and scientific background imperative,” she said.
Through the program, according to Kefalogianni, the ministry aims to upgrade the experience of visitors that are interested in culture tourism, which highlights the culture and history of Greece.
Further information on the program is expected to be announced soon by the tourism ministry.
