Athens-Thessaloniki Railway Link: Passenger Trains from December 16
The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced that the railway connection on the central Athens–Thessaloniki route would be restored late Monday with the arrival of the first commercial train at the Thriasio Logistics Center.
The route was previously disrupted by damage caused during the storms “Daniel” and “Elias”.
According to an announcement, only freight trains will operate on the railway axis until December 16 in order to decongest freight centers.
From December 16, the Athens-Thessaloniki railway service will be fully restored with the launch of passenger trains.
Moreover, within the first months of 2024, the final restoration work will also begin on both the main axis and the two other railway sections, Larissa – Volos and Paleofarsalos – Kalambaka, as well as the Pelion tourist line.
