Greece – Austria Explore Stronger Cooperation in Tourism
Increasing tourist flows and enhancing cooperation in tourism topped the agenda of talks between Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and the Ambassador of Austria to Greece Gerda Vogl this week.
The two officials discussed ways to further strengthen ties based on a memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries a year ago.
Among others, Kefalogianni briefed the ambassador on ministry priorities, which include upgrading education and tourism training opportunities and the possibility of launching student exchange programs between the two countries.
The minister also informed Vogl of high priority winter and hiking tourism projects that will be funded through RRF funds and which Austria can provide knowhow for.
Vogl said Greece and Austria could also work together on the digitization of tourism services as well as in the development of special interest tourism products with a focus on religious tourism.
Lastly, Kefalogianni extended an invitation to Austria’s tourism minister to visit Greece so that the two sides can further strengthen bilateral cooperation in tourism.
Greece is a popular destination among Austrian travelers. At least 20 Greek destinations, including Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Volos, Skiathos, Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Rhodes, Mykonos, and Santorini, were linked with direct flights from Austria this year run by Austrian Airlines.
