Metaxa Hospitality Group Wins Environmental Initiative Award 2023
Metaxa Hospitality Group, a renowned Greek group of companies in the tourism sector, received the Environmental Initiative of the Year award at the Travel Industry Awards 2023 by TTG that took place in London last month.
Held by the UK’s TTG Media and now in its third edition, the awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious in the travel industry. They employ a rigorous evaluation process, combining written submissions, agent ratings, and live presentations to recognize the top travel suppliers and sellers across Europe and the world.
Metaxa Hospitality Group was honored for its outstanding commitment to sustainability through its “Sustainable Hotel Farming” program. The initiative enables the group’s hotels to produce their own food using environmentally sustainable methods. It also incorporates cultivation and horticultural practices designed to reduce the group’s environmental impact and minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
“This is a significant recognition for our initiatives that aim to make a positive contribution toward climate change, encouraging environmental protection, as well as establishing a resilient, healthy and environmentally friendly food system,” the company said in an announcement.
“At Metaxa Hospitality Group, we adhere to the principles outlined in the European Green Deal and adopt the EU’s ‘Farm to Fork‘ strategy. We seamlessly merge hospitality and gastronomy through sustainable primary production, making it an integral part of the experience we offer.”
Metaxa Hospitality Group was founded by Nikolaos Metaxas back in 1975, transforming Crete into a luxurious travel destination as a result of his vision of developing hotels that embrace authentic hospitality, sustainability and culture through the people, place and local community.
Today, the group holds over 45 prestigious awards and continues to lead the way in Greece’s tourism industry. The group specializes in developing, managing, and operating three resorts and hotels, as well as a convention center in Crete and Santorini.
