EU Joint Project Promotes Nymfaio and Pelister National Park as Tourism Destinations
Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia have teamed up to promote Nymfaio, a remote village in Western Macedonia, and Pelister National Park, located in the Bitola Municipality.
The initiative is being implemented by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and the Pelister National Park within the framework of the cross-border “advenTOUR – Adventure across the borders” initiative funded under the Interreg IPA 2014-2020 program and aimed at improving the attractiveness and promoting tourism in the cross-border area to enhance employment in tourism and support the local economies.
Nymfaio, a popular winter tourist destination in Greece, has been named by UNESCO as one of the most beautiful villages in Europe. The Pelister National Park is also a favorite destination for outdoor recreation lovers.
Among others, the initiative, budgeted at 653,670,00 euros, includes:
- developing at least two joint tourist products – one-day or/and multi-day trips to the area introducing visitors to outdoor and cultural activities and linking both areas as a one-stop destination;
- arranging FAM trips for travel buyers and promoters aimed at testing before marketing newly developed products;
- the sharing of expertise on outdoor travel experiences by the Young Men’s Christian Association (HAN) – Thessaloniki/YMCA Thessaloniki with stakeholders in the Republic of North Macedonia; and
- the setting up of an adrenalin park and zip line at Nymphaio camp by Pelister National Park.
As part of the initiative, the GNTO organized two FAM trips last month for journalists, travel agents, tour operators and providers from both countries.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that 4 billion euros would be going into 380 new infrastructure projects in Western Macedonia in Northwestern Greece.
