ETC: Greece Top Choice for Long-haul Travelers from Six Markets in Sept-Dec
Greece remains among the leading destinations winning over long-haul travelers in the September-December period, found the latest report released by the European Travel Commission (ETC) in collaboration with Eurail BV.
More specifically, according to the ETC’s Long-Haul Travel Barometer which examines travel intention in six overseas markets in the September-December period, holidaymakers from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the US and Japan, rank Greece among the Top 10 European destinations to visit this year.
According to the ETC study, Greece is the 6th most popular holiday destination for Australian travelers, 7th for Brazilian travelers, 6th for Canadians, 4th for the Chinese, and 6th for both American and Japanese travelers.
The ETC study goes on to add that travel intent for Europe in the last quarter of the year remains strong despite increasing ticket fares and inflationary pressures.
Indicatively, vacationers from the US name Greece as their sixth favorite destination accounting for 12 percent of the market share with France (34 percent), Italy (29 percent) and the UK (20 percent) in the lead.
Greece accounts for an 11 percent share of Australian market travel ranking 6th. In the lead, Australian holidaymakers named France (38 percent), Italy (27 percent) and the UK (20 percent).
Brazilian travelers rank Greece in the 7th spot accounting for 12 percent of the market share with Portugal in the lead (45 percent), followed by France (37 percent) and Italy (34 percent).
For Canadians, Greece is the 6th favorite destination to travel to until the end of the year, accounting for an 11 percent market share. The Top 3 destinations are France (38 percent), the UK (27 percent), and Germany (20 percent).
Chinese, Japanese opt for Greece again
The ETC’s Long-Haul Travel Barometer also sees Greece re-entering the Top 10 lists of preferred destinations of Japanese and Chinese travelers for trips in the coming months
Greece is now also a top destination of choice for Chinese travelers ranked 5th together with Finland and Switzerland and accounting for 13 percent of the market share. In the lead, France (47 percent), Germany (23 percent), and Italy (20 percent).
And lastly, Greece is the sixth favorite destination of choice for Japanese travelers accounting for 7 percent of the market share after France (23 percent), Italy (23 percent), and Germany (19 percent).
Overall, according to the report the Chinese expressed the strongest intention to travel to Europe through to December this year.
Additional, respondents in most markets under review said culture, history, famous sites and weather were the reasons for travel to a European destination.
