AEGEAN to Resume Thessaloniki – Kalamata Route in November
AEGEAN on Wednesday announced that it will resume the route connecting Thessaloniki with Kalamata route from November 1 with three weekly flights.
According to a company announcement, the decision to relaunch the route follows an agreement with Greek developer TEMES for the support of the route to serve the demand of passengers.
AEGEAN said that is was “sharing the burden” of supporting the specific route during the winter period, to fill the gap, until the relevant public service tender is successfully carried out by authorities.
It is recalled that the Thessaloniki – Kalamata route was operated by Olympic Air, a subsidiary of AEGEAN, and was suspended on August 31, after the Greek government’s tender for state-subsidised routes did not produce results.
“AEGEAN thanks TEMES and expects the competent services to accelerate the relevant procedures so that the coverage of the specific route under the public service regime is consolidated as soon as possible,” the company said in the announcement.
TEMES is the parent company of Costa Navarino that located in Messinia, southwest Peloponnese, and accessible with direct flights to Kalamata International Airport.
