Greece Welcomes October Rise in Tourist Arrivals
Incoming tourist flows to Greece are maintaining an upward dynamic into October with increases in the number of arrivals by air, according to INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research body.
More specifically, according to INSETE’s Airdata Tracker, Athens and Thessaloniki are in the lead accounting for the highest number of prebooked airline seats. The number of planned seats for October are up by 5.8 percent to 2.7 million compared to the same month in 2022.
INSETE analysts attribute the rise to carriers programing more flights to major Greek airports for later in the year. Indicatively, airlines and tour operators are already adding seats, routes and new destinations to their travel programs for 2024 aiming to meet the growing demand.
Top source markets for October include Germany with nearly 600,000 planned seats, the UK with 557,000, and France with 180,000, followed by Italy, Israel and the Netherlands.
The number of planned seats to Athens in October is up by 16.9 percent compared to last year to over 1 million.
Other destinations set to fare well this month include Zakynthos, where the number of planned seats is up by 25.7 percent, Thessaloniki (+15 percent), Corfu (+7.4 percent), Rhodes (+4.5 percent), and Chania (+3.7 percent).
Declines in October in the number of seats are recorded on Crete (-3.6 percent), Kos (-7.7 percent), Skiathos (-5.1 percent) and Mykonos (-1 percent).
