Cyprus Airways Announces Tasos Michael as New Chairman
Cyprus Airways, the flagship carrier and leading airline of Cyprus, announced that it has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Tasos Michael as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Tasos, a lawyer with a wealth of industry experience in asset finance, acquisition, and leasing, is set to lead Cyprus Airways into a new era. Over the course of his career, he has provided counsel to a wide array of global entities, including shipping groups, airlines, banks, funds, and investors. His expertise has intersected with private and flag carriers, along with aircraft manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing.
“Tasos brings with him decades of experience in large-scale expansion aviation projects after having spearheaded various startup airlines which are today industry leaders… Together with my management team, I am excited to welcome him onboard as we pursue our vision of growth for Cyprus Airways,” the airline’s CEO, Paul Sies, said.
On his part, Tasos said he is proud to assume the chairmanship of Cyprus Airways.
“I am confident that together with my Board of Directors, the airline’s management, and staff, we can continue to steer this airline to even greater success that will yield returns for our shareholders, as well as added value to our customers,” he said.
Additionally, Cyprus Airways welcomed George Hadjiyiannis, a highly accomplished professional with a strong background in International Securities and Investment Banking, as a new member of the Board.
Hadjiyiannis currently serves on the Board of Directors of Tsokkos Group and is the Director and President of the Board of Directors of the Betting Association of Cyprus. Additionally, he is a member of the Board of Directors of CFI Limassol and serves as a Partner and Director at CyCHartsGlobal Fiduciary Services and Consulting, bringing extensive leadership and consultation experience to the Cyprus Airways team.
“I am looking forward to working closely with our whole Board to continue growing the airline with new routes and frequencies and providing an even better product to our customers whilst supporting the Cypriot community and its tourism industry,” said Sies.
Cyprus Airways, the flag carrier of Cyprus, resumed operations in 2016. The airline currently operates an advanced Airbus A220 and two Airbus A320 aircraft. Its winter destinations include Athens, Beirut, Tel Aviv, Yerevan, Paris, Rome, Dubai, Milan-Malpensa, Prague and Zurich.
