Increase in Arrivals to Greece Boosts Tourist Spending in July
Tourism-related revenues in Greece increased in July by 15.1 percent year-on-year to 4,146.2 million euros driven by a 15.8 percent rise in arrivals in one of the peak season months.
More specifically, according to provisional data released on Thursday by the Bank of Greece, EU traveler receipts increased by 11.3 percent to 2,291.9 million euros and by 20.3 percent to 1,779.8 million by non-EU nationals reaching a total of 4,146.2 million compared to 3,601.7 million in July 2022.
In July, Greece welcomed 6,108.6 thousand inbound travelers. Markets generating tourism revenue for the month were Germany up by 2.1 percent to 581.4 million, France (+14.9 percent to 322.0 million euros), the UK (+17.3 percent to 764.3 million euros), and the US (+0.9 percent to 214.4 million euros).
In the same month, receipts from Russia increased by 40.9 percent to 6.3 million euros.
January-July
In the seven months to July, travel receipts increased by 20.2 percent year-on-year to 10,321.1 million euros driven in large part by a 14.7 percent rise in receipts generated by travelers from the EU and to 5,648.8 million euros and a 27.0 percent increase by non-EU residents to 4,403.4 million euros.
The number of arrivals in the January-July period increased by 21.9 percent over the same period in 2022 to 16,170.4 thousand.
German visitors led the way in the seven-month period generating 1,716.5 million euros in travel receipts, up by 7.0 percent, followed by the French (+23.9 percent to 782.0 million euros), the British (+11.9 percent to 1,620.3 million euros), the Americans (+33.8 percent to 737.8 million euros), and the Russians (+13.7 percent to 21.7 million euros).
