AEGEAN Operates Extra Flight for Repatriation of Travelers from Morocco
Greek airline company AEGEAN on Saturday informed that an extra, unscheduled flight from Marrakech to Athens would operate for the repatriation of its passengers and all those wishing to return following the devastating earthquake in Morocco.
A 6.8-magnitude quake struck Morocco late on Friday. A major tourist spot, Marrakech was the largest city near the center of the quake. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was the strongest to hit the region around the ancient city of Marrakech in a century.
AEGEAN’s A320 aircraft operating the extra flight departed without passengers on Saturday at 23:00 local time from Athens to Marrakech. It departed from Menara International Airport in Marrakech at 02:10 (local time) on Sunday to return to Athens International Airport.
The company informed that all AEGEAN passengers who already have a ticket from Marrakech to Greece for the following days and wish to return to Greece, should contact the company’s call centre at (+30) 210 6261000 to change their ticket free of charge.
Τhose who wish to return to Athens and do not hold a ticket, can purchase one from AEGEAN’s website or contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (+30 210 368 1730).
According to Moroccon broadcaster 2M said, the death toll after the earthquake climbed to 2,122 on Sunday afternoon. A further 2,421 people are injured.
