Seamen’s Federation Announces Strike, No Ferries Wednesday
The Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) on Friday announced a 24-hour nationwide strike in all ship categories on Wednesday, September 13.
The federation announced the strike to protest the death of Antonis Karyotis, 36, who was shoved off the ramp of the ‘Blue Horizon’ ferry by a crew member.
PNO is calling for the safety of maritime transport and the protection of human life.
The federation said that it would offer its support to Karyotis’ family and highlighted that the behavior of the seamen of the Blue Horizon does not represent the vast majority of Greek seamen.
Travelers that have booked ferry tickets for Wednesday are advised to check with their travel agents or contact local port authorities for further information.
The Greek seamen and women are the best! I’m very sad at the loss of life that occurred and fully support their decision to make their professionalism clear even it is inconvenient for some people (like me).
Bravo
