Greece has Five September Sports Tourism Events on Agenda
Five major sports tourism events are scheduled to take place in Greece this September under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). The events will take place in Epidavros, Philippi, Ioannina, Kefalonia and Preveza.
Epidavros Action 2023
Epidavros Action 2023 will be held on September 9-10 in the center of ancient Epidaurus. The event includes triathlon, aquathlon, swimming and running races. Held since 2014 , the event aims to develop sports tourism and promote the region and its attractions as ideal for the development of sports activities. Its races are part of the WTL (Whynot Triathlon League) and the WSL (Whynot Swimming League) and have already been placed under the auspices of the Hellenic Triathlon Federation.
5th Brevet Philippi
The 5th “Brevet Philippi” will take place on September 23 in Philippi Park. The event is an annual cycling event that adopts the French standards for the development of cycling tourism. More than 2,000 people are expected to take part in the race, which will start and finish at the archaeological site of Philippi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The race will cover 210 kilometers through 20 local settlements and seven municipalities of Eastern Macedonia (Kavala, Drama, Doxato, Prossotsani, Pangaio, Amphipolis and Nea Zichni).
Ioannina Lake Run
The Ioannina Lake Run will take place on September 23-24. The event includes the Pamvotida Lake Run, a 30 km race, as well as 5 and 10 km races, the Family Run, the original “Mama – Carrot” race, the Paralimnios road for the disabled and a race for primary school children. More than 3,000 athletes of all ages are expected to take part in the event.
3rd Ainos Mountain Marathon
The 3rd Ainos Mountain Marathon will take place on September 24 in the Ainos National Park, which is part of the Kefalonia Geopark. The race is a 42km mountain race that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding islands. A 10km race is also scheduled to take place during the event, starting in Pyrgi and finishing in Digaletto.
Preveza Sports Tourism Forum
The Preveza Sports Tourism Forum will be held in Preveza from September 6-8. The conference will discuss the promotion of sports tourism as a dynamic source of local development, as well as the ways of cooperation between municipalities and regions with professionals and specialized businesses to make Preveza and Epirus a competitive destination of sports tourism.
The conference will be attended by leading journalists – members of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS Europe), academics, athletes, sports managers and industry professionals, as well as representatives of local and regional authorities.
The events are expected to attract thousands of athletes and tourists from Greece and abroad, and will contribute to the promotion of Greece as a leading destination for sports tourism.
