Tourism Minister Visits Corfu to Discuss Sustainable Tourism
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni recently visited Corfu to discuss the current tourist season and the future of sustainable tourism in the area, following an invitation by Ionian Islands Governor Rodi Kratsa – Tsagaropoulou.
During a meeting with local tourism stakeholders, Kefalogianni said that the ministry’s ongoing aim is to establish Greece as a world-class destination, with a tourist season that extends beyond the summer period. She also stressed that the Ionian Region had already launched and implemented important programs and initiatives that supported the ministry’s development and sustainability goals.
Kefalogianni cited the collaboration between Fraport and Fly Dubai for the Dubai-Corfu-Dubai route as an example of a successful initiative. She also mentioned the dynamic presence of the Ionian Islands Film Office, which is successfully promoting the area through international and local audiovisual productions.
“Tourism can be a catalyst for growth in Greece and particularly for areas with a great tradition such as Corfu and the Ionian Islands,” Kefalogianni said.
She added that the Greek tourism leadership will continue to show its trust and support to the tourism sector and its human capital.
Kefalogianni was accompanied by Deputy Tourism Minister, Elena Rapti, while the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) President Angela Gerekou and its Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis also attended the event.
