Cunard and Mr. Brainwash Partner to Create Mural on Queen Elizabeth Ship
Cunard, the luxury British cruise line, has recently partnered with pop art phenomenon Mr. Brainwash to create a new mural on board its flagship ship, Queen Elizabeth.
The mural, which is an intricate patchwork of iconic Cunard marketing posters from the 1920s, was unveiled in an exclusive ceremony last week in Los Angeles. Mr. Brainwash, who is known for his playful and subversive approach to art, added his signature graffiti style to the mural during the ceremony.
The mural is a celebration of Cunard’s rich history and its commitment to artistic excellence. The iconic Cunard marketing posters from the 1920s were created by some of the most celebrated artists of the day. Mr. Brainwash’s graffiti style adds a modern twist to the mural, creating a unique and eye-catching work of art.
“We are thrilled to have partnered with Mr. Brainwash for Queen Elizabeth’s incredible new mural,” said Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, adding that the company “always strives to provide guests with enriching and unique experiences on board, and this one-of-a-kind masterpiece will certainly be enjoyed by our many art lovers.”
During the event, Mr. Brainwash said that his new work piece was very special to him, “because it merges two worlds together and represents artistic expression on a grand scale.”
The mural is the latest in a series of initiatives by Cunard to promote art and culture at sea. The cruise line also offers guests the opportunity to attend art auctions, lectures, and workshops, and it has its own art gallery on board each ship.
The mural is located in the Garden Lounge, one of the most popular public spaces on Queen Elizabeth. The lounge is a bright and airy space with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the ocean.
Thierry Guetta ‘s, AKA Mr. Brainwash, work is held in public and private collections across the globe. His ‘Long Live the King‘ portrait of King Charles III, released to coincide with the Coronation, was a record release demonstrating the remarkable levels of interest in his work.
Some of his work also features in private collections belonging to the likes of Barack Obama, Al Pacino, Lionel Richie, and Rihanna, and he has also worked on charity collaborations with Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama.
Cunard has been a leading operator of passenger ships on the North Atlantic since 1840, and is considered a pioneer in transatlantic journeys.
The line’s newest ship, Queen Anne, set to debut in May 2024, will have the technology installed before her maiden voyage.
