Athens and Thessaloniki Airports Rated as Best in Greece by Google Users
Thessaloniki “Makedonia” Airport and Athens International Airport (AIA) are among those ranked first by Google users in the first half of the year (H1) according to an airports study released this week by analytics firm Tourix.
More specifically, according to 11,712 Google Reviews from January to June 2023, Thessaloniki Airport was awarded a score of 4.42 (out of 5) making the best impression on users followed in second place by AIA with 4.38, and Kos with 4.25. Completing the Top 5 list of best rated airports in Greece based on Google reviews in H1 2023 were the airports of Chania (Crete, 4.20) and Zakynthos (4.09).
Thessaloniki airport was named one of Europe’s best during the 2022 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards organized by Airports Council International (ACI) World and Amadeus.
In June, AIA was among the winners in its category of ACI Europe’s Best Airport Awards 2023 praised for operational resilience and its bold corporate sustainability strategy.
Heraklion Airport scores low
Heraklion Airport was last on the list with the lowest user score in H1 2023. It should be reminded that the airport will be replaced in late 2027 early 2028 by the highly anticipated Kastelli Airport set to handle some 15 million passengers a year.
According to the same study by Tourix, AIA is in the lead in terms of passenger numbers together with the airport of Samos and followed by those of Limnos, Ioannina and Thessaloniki. On the downside, the worst Greek airports according to overall Google user reviews were those of Heraklion (Crete), with a score of 2.70, Santorini (3.10) and Mykonos (3.30).
Meanwhile, according to the latest Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority data, Greek airports reporting the highest passenger traffic in the first half of the year were AIA handling over 12 million passengers, followed by those of Thessaloniki (3 million), Heraklion (2.7 million), Rhodes (2.13 million) and Chania (1.29 million).
