Athens Airport Passenger Traffic Surpasses 2019 Levels
Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport (AIA) increased by 16.1 percent in July over the same month in 2022, handling a total of 3.29 million people while also surpassing by 10.5 percent pre-Covid 2019 levels for the same month.
More specifically, according to AIA provisional data released earlier this week, domestic and international passenger figures outdid 2022 levels by 12.7 percent and 17.7 percent, respectively, and by 12.4 percent and 9.7 percent compared to 2019.
In the first seven months of the year, AIA handled 15.37 million passenger arrivals up by 30.1 percent over the same period in 2022 and by 7.9 percent against 2019. The number of domestic arrivals was up by 23.3 percent over 2022 and international arrivals by 33.5 percent. Compared to 2019 levels for the period under review, domestic arrivals were up by 10.4 percent and international traffic by 6.9 percent.
Flights
In terms of flights in the January-July period, AIA handled 133,700 flights, up by 14.1 percent against 2022 levels for the period and by 4.7 percent over pre-Covid 2019 levels.
The number of domestic flights increased by 8.4 percent over 2022 and international flights were up by 18.9 percent. Compared to 2019 levels, domestic flights increased by 8.7 percent and international flights by 1.8 percent.
