Greek Islands Among Readers’ Favorites in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards
A number of Greek islands were among the big winners of Travel + Leisure (T+L) magazine’s recent announcement of its annual World’s Best Awards.
The 28th edition of the awards revealed the finest travel destinations and tourism businesses worldwide based on the findings of the 2023 World’s Best Awards’ reader survey.
Based on a score of 92.47 Paros was named the 11th (World) and 3rd (Europe) most favorite island for 2023.
Rhodes and the Dodecanese islands managed the second highest Greek entry on both lists and were named the 19th (World) and 5th (Europe) most favorite islands for 2023.
With a score of 89.51 Santorini was named the 8th most favorite European island on the 25 Favorite Islands in the World of 2023 list.
The 15 Favorite Islands in Europe of 2023 list saw Milos (9th), Crete (11th), Mykonos (13th) and Corfu and the Ionian Islands (14th) also managing a spot.
Greece dominated this list with a total of seven entries.
T+L’s 2023 World’s Best Awards also saw a number of Greek hotels and resorts, international hospitality brands operating in Greece and travel companies get multiple mentions.
Readers of T + L voted Madeira, Portugal as Europe’s favorite island for 2023 and the Great Barrier Reef Islands, Australia, as the world’s favorite for this year.
Nearly 165,000 T+L readers completed the 2023 survey, an increase of nearly 25 percent over pre-pandemic voting levels.
In order to compile the 25 Favorite Islands in the World of 2023 and the 15 Favorite Islands in Europe of 2023 lists, the magazine’s readers were asked to rate some of the world’s most popular islands based on criteria such as natural attractions/beaches; activities/sights; restaurants/food; people/friendliness and value.
Initially published in 1937 as U.S. Camera and Travel, Travel + Leisure is a US travel magazine based in New York City. Published 12 times a year, it has 4.8 million readers. Condé Nast Traveler is considered its main competitor.
