Sea Days 2023: Piraeus Celebrates Maritime Heritage and Cultural Diversity
Piraeus is preparing to host its Sea Days 2023 event and offer locals and visitors the opportunity to learn all about the rich maritime culture and history of one of the oldest and most significant ports in the Mediterranean Sea.
In its ninth year, Sea Days 2023 will transform Piraeus into a vibrant hub of entertainment, focusing on the sea, history, culture, shipping, tradition, and sports.
From May 24 to June 4, attendees can take part in over 100 free activities and events, including exhibitions, concerts, unique music and dance performances, workshops, photography and painting exhibitions, and guided tours of the port and its historic landmarks.
Educational and sports activities are also on the program of events, thanks to the support of a series of institutions, voluntary organizations, and associations.
Adding to the excitement, Piraeus will host the “Piraeus Street Long Jump”, showcasing the talents of long jump athlete Miltos Tentoglou. The city will welcome top long jump stars, solidifying its position as a unique sports destination.
Sea Days 2023 will also allow visitors to admire the functional replica of the Athenian Trireme “Olympias” and enjoy sunset film screenings at Aphrodite’s Cove. Renowned artists, including Lena Alkaiou, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, and Yannis Lebesis, will provide captivating musical performances.
Moreover, during Sea Days 2023, children will be able to engage in sailing and learn about the virtues of sports and scouting. Other events include bicycle rides, a recycling festival and the “Blue Park Piraeus“, which promotes environmental awareness.
Underwater photo exhibition
The Sea Days 2023 events will include the exclusive photo exhibition “Piraeus Aquatic” by photographer Elli Agiannidis. Hosted by the Municipality of Piraeus, the exhibition will open on Friday, May 26, at 7pm at the Piraeus Municipal Gallery. Elli Agiannidis, captures narrative moments and emotions experienced by the athletes as they interact with water, yielding a different and unique perception of an alternative universe, and the possibility of what it would be like, to live there. The exhibition will run until June 4 with free entrance.
Opening ceremony
The event’s Grand opening ceremony was held on May 23 and featured a concert dedicated to renowned Piraeus Greek lyricist Elias Filippou, with notable Greek singing artists including Lena Zevgara, Petros Iakovidis and Nikos Makropoulos.
