Athens Ranks in Top 50 of Europe’s Best Cities 2023 Report
Athens has ranked as one of Europe’s top-performing cities, according to the global place branding advisor Resonance Consultancy‘s inaugural 2023 Europe’s Best Cities Report.
Resonance, a leading global advisor in tourism, real estate, and economic development, launched the list, taking into consideration Europe’s leading position in post-pandemic tourism recovery and as a follow-up to its coveted World’s Best Cities list, which is considered the world’s most thorough city ranking.
The 2023 Europe’s Best Cities ranking was based on an original methodology that analyzed key statistics, user-generated reviews, social media, and online activity.
“The 2023 Europe’s Best Cities rankings benchmark the overall performance of more than 125 metropolitan centers with populations of 500,000 or more, based on a wide variety of measures to identify the top 100 places to live, visit, and invest in Europe,” said Resonance President & CEO Chris Fair.
Athens ranked 43rd overall on the list, 15th best for its culture, entertainment, and culinary scene, 22nd when it came to the quantity of stories, references, and recommendations shared online about it, 27th for its location and history, and 12th for its outdoor offerings.
The report highlights the city’s resilience despite the financial crises, austerity, and pandemic and hails its tourism comeback almost to 2019 levels.
On the other hand, the Greek capital ranked 103rd in the “Prosperity” category examining the city’s employment and corporate head offices, including the sub-categories of Fortune 500 Companies, household income, employment rate, and income equality.
London, UK was named Europe’s most attractive metropolitan area for 2023, with Paris and Amsterdam taking the runner-up positions, and Barcelona and Zurich rounding up the top 5.
Not that bad, taking in account that is a survey that compares cities within worlds richest continent. For sur living conditions in Athens easily surpass the majority of big US cities, people of middle range income in US, is having to deal with lot’s of problematic situations like: high criminality, disfuntcional public services, bad public communication etc, plus a non existen ( practically ) public health system. That doesn’t mean that Athens has no space to cover, it rather means the opposite as Europe’s standards are far better than USA’s, but yes is a city that one can easily enjoy life!
Instead of indulging in self-praise for the mediocre scores which Athens received in this dubious and rather pointless survey, the city needs to face reality and embark on real and coordinated improvements which will enhance the day-to-day lives of its residents, substantially improve the image it presents to tourists, and embraces the benefits of encouraging national and international businesses to thrive. Real vision, hard work and creativity are urgently needed to revitalise the city.
So true So true.
Exactly correct.
43rd!from 100!! What a big success!!! I suppose it could be even worst!!
