The island of Skopelos in Greece is one of the most popular movie locations in the world that people want to visit, according to a recent study conducted by PACasino, a US-based online casino reviewer.
The study analyzed TikTok views, Instagram hashtags, and Google search volumes to identify the most popular movie locations available to visit today.
Known for being featured in the hit movie musical “Mamma Mia!“, Skopelos of the North Sporades island group, placed 10 on the list with an overall popularity score of 6.41/10.
Skopelos managed to achieve 120,000 Google searches per month, which was the fourth highest among all locations analyzed, and 224,000 Instagram hashtags. The island’s popularity as a tourist destination has been boosted by its stunning natural beauty and the popularity of the hit musical movie locations like the Agios Ioannis chapel and Kastani beach.
Furthermore, the study found that Hobbiton, New Zealand, the location used throughout the Lord of The Rings film trilogy, is the most popular movie location to visit in the world, with an overall popularity score of 9.13/10.
Glenfinnan Viaduct, the filming location of the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies, took second place, with an overall popularity score of 8.39/10 and 48,000 monthly searches.
The infamous Timberline Lodge, which was featured in the classic horror movie “The Shining“, came in third, with a popularity score of 8.26/10, followed by Alnwick Castle, which played host to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, with an overall popularity score of 8.02/10.
The study shows that the popularity of movie locations as tourist destinations has increased significantly in recent years, with many people keen to visit the places they have seen on the big screen.
