GNTO Puts Greek Culture on the Calendar in September
The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) is supporting three cultural events that will take place in Athens and on the Greek islands of Corfu and Chios in September.
The organization has set under its auspices the Festival of Five Continents that will be held at the Veikou Park in Galatsi, Athens, as well as the International City Festival of Corfu and the Medieval Festival of Chios.
“Such events promote the high-level services and infrastructure of Attica; the contemporary international artistic scene of Corfu; the history, culture and architecture of Chios,” the GNTO said.
Festival of Five Continents
Organized by the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands, the 4th Festival of Five Continents will be held during September 1-4. It is an annual celebration of customs, traditions, sounds, flavors and cultures of many different countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America.
This year, the festival will host cultural associations from Romania, Georgia, Egypt, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Moldova, Zambia, the Ivory Coast, India and Armenia.
Admission is free.
Medieval Festival of Chios
The Medieval Festival of Chios will take place in the castle of Chios and the Mastichochoria (Mastic Villages) during September 2-4.
The festival will include a number of original artistic events that aim to inspire, entertain and combine memories from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance but also showcase the beauties, architecture and monuments of Chios.
The first day of the festival will take place at the castle’s square with a special visual performance combining music, poetry and entertainment with historic references.
The festival’s second day will include lectures by artist Ioannis Metzikof as well as the opening of a costume exhibition by Metzikof.
In addition, a unique show featuring knights, princesses and swordsmen will take place at the square of Olympion and Meston. It will be followed by a celebration with local artists and traditional bands.
