Tickets for Greece in Demand for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend
UK travelers are booking tickets for Greece for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee four-day holiday weekend on June 2-5, said travel intelligence platform Mabrian Technologies, which presented data this week on outbound UK travel searches.
Mabrian Technologies data is an analysis of recent search demand for air tickets from the UK for Spain, Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Portugal, which are all showing a peak for the weekend ahead of the bank holiday.
More specifically, besides Greece (with 4.30 per million of all searches), other popular vacation spots for the Brits for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee holiday, include Spain, which is the top destination of choice for Brits wanting to go abroad, taking up 12.09 per million of all searches, Italy (5.37), Turkey (4.44), and Portugal (4.16).
According to Mabrian, demand for these destinations is not directly linked to average room rates (ARR), with a double room in Italy going for the highest ARR at 133.84 euros, followed by Greece at 120.65 euros, Spain at 119.28 euros, Portugal at 118.23 euros, and Turkey at 82.45 euros.
“Normally at this time of year, there’s a steady increase in demand week by week for sun-and-sea European destinations from Brits as the temperatures get warmer and the summer season starts properly,” said Mabrian Sales & Marketing Director Carlos Cendra.
“But this year’s mega-bank holiday weekend thanks to Queen Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary celebrations has created a welcome one-off boost to demand with a clear preference from travelers to take the whole week off and benefit from nine days away for the price of just three days work holiday,” said Cendra.
