Greece’s Health Minister Thanos Plevris announced rules for the operation of Christmas theme parks on Thursday, after confirming the country’s first case of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Plevris said only adults who have been vaccinated or who have recovered in the last six months and children with negative rapid test results can enter Christmas events/activities/parks. Those who have recovered will also be required to show a negative PCR test result.

Greece has also decided to push its children’s vaccination program forward on guidance of the country’s Covid committee. Plevris said the relevant platform for children aged 5 to 11 would open when the vaccines for that age group are received.

The health minister confirmed that unvaccinated citizens 60 years old or older will have to book the first dose by January 16 or pay a 100-euro fine every month. The measure was announced on Tuesday by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in an attempt to stem the spread of Covid-19 without going into lockdown.

2 free Covid self-tests will be given to adults

With regard to free self-tests – to be available to all adult residents of Greece – the minister said distribution will start next week. More specifically: from December 6 to 11 with a second round ahead of the new year. He advised everyone to be tested regularly particularly in view of Christmas get-togethers and holiday events.

Additionally, the government is examining requiring vaccination with the third dose in four months from the second dose and not in six.
