Greece will celebrate European Heritage Days 2021 with free admission to museums, archaeological sites and monuments during the weekend of September 25-26.

Celebrations kick off from Friday, September 24, with a number of in-person events scheduled to take place across the country in accordance with the health protocols announced against Covid-19.

Virtual activities will also be held throughout the weekend via the websites and social media channels of the organizers.

More information is available on Greece’s European Heritage Days Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/EHDaysGR/ and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ehpk_greece/.

A Council of Europe initiative launched in 1985, European Heritage Days is celebrated every September in member countries of the European Cultural Convention.

The shared themes for 2021 are “Heritage: All Inclusive” and “Traveling by rail” – a part of the 2021 European Year of Rail initiative.

In Greece, European Heritage Days honor the life and work of the first governor of the modern Greek state Ioannis Kapodistrias, as part of events for the bicentennial of the 1821 Greek War of Independence.
