A Council of Europe initiative launched in 1985, European Heritage Days is celebrated every September in member countries of the European Cultural Convention.
The shared themes for 2021 are “Heritage: All Inclusive” and “Traveling by rail” – a part of the 2021 European Year of Rail initiative.
In Greece, European Heritage Days honor the life and work of the first governor of the modern Greek state Ioannis Kapodistrias, as part of events for the bicentennial of the 1821 Greek War of Independence.
