Lufthansa on Friday announced that it will more than double its flight program for Greece with the addition of seven brand new Greek destinations to its network for summer 2021.

Starting May 21, the destinations of AktionChaniaCorfu, Kavala, Kos, Mykonos and Zakynthos will welcome the German airline for the first time.

According to a company announcement, this addition of destinations represents the biggest growth of Lufthansa in its long history of 62 year’s presence.

Commenting on the news, Lufthansa Group Airlines General Manager Sales Greece Kostas Tzevelekos referred to “double good news” for the country.

“Passengers from Greece gain much more connectivity and secondly, this increased schedule will also support our tourism sector,” Tzevelekos said.

Numerous connecting abilities via the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich to a global network will be available to passengers from Greece.

“Hopefully during the upcoming summer we will see more tourists arriving with Lufthansa in Greece, once the pandemic conditions improve and restrictions ease,” he added.

All carriers of the Lufthansa Group are planning to fly to a total of 17 destinations in Greece and carry out 470 connections to the country during peak summer period.

The news coincides with the completion of upgrade works at 14 Greek regional airports that are run by  Fraport Greece.
