Greek Tourism Ministry to Address Late Payments to Quarantine Hotels

The Greek Tourism Ministry will be setting up a 12-member working group responsible for accelerating the allocation of payments to hotels and other tourism businesses that were included in measures taken to address the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The decision was signed by Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis and aims to address the delay in payments to quarantine hotels and other businesses and to coordinate relevant ministry department actions in this direction.

The decision comes after repeated complaints by tourism professionals.

Payments still on hold concern the following tourism activities:

– tourist accommodation facilities rented out to meet Covid-19 quarantine needs

– emergency funding for tourist accommodation operating on exception (for emergency reasons during the 2020 lockdown)

– support to tourist offices and tourist road transport enterprises operating buses and trains

– companies participating in the “Tourism for All” program.

The working group’s duties will be completed on March 1, 2021 and will include briefing the minister weekly on the progress of payments to beneficiaries.
