Nine-month Passenger Traffic to Greece Down by 68.9%
Passenger traffic through Greece’s airports dropped by 68.9 percent in the first nine months of the year reflecting the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on air travel, according to data released this week by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
A total of 16.6 million passengers went through Greek airports in the January-September period down by 68.9 percent in 2020 compared to 53.4 million in the same nine months a year ago.
Over the same nine months, Greek airports handled 195,762 flights – 96,605 domestic and 99,157 international – marking a 54.8 percent decline against 433,320 flights in total in the corresponding 2019 period.
In September, Greece’s airports welcomed 3,149,471 passengers in total down by 63.1 percent against 8,523,771 in the same month in 2019.
International passenger arrivals fell by 66 percent to 1,093,048 compared to 3,217,115 in September 2019.
The total number of flights for September came to 34,582, marking a 46.7 percent decline compared to 2019 and 64,906 flights.
