UK’s Bettany Hughes to Film the ‘Wonders of Greece’

English historian, author, and broadcaster Bettany Hughes is getting ready to come to Greece to film her new TV project, which will be dedicated to the wonders of the country.

According to an announcement by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), Hughes is planning to film footage for a 60-minute TV program, entitled “Wonders of Greece”, which will focus on the country’s culture and landscape.

“The whole film will be a letter of love for Greece … Each shot of the show will be a visual and verbal promotion of Greece, its culture and landscapes, in the United Kingdom, Ireland and worldwide,” the GNTO said.

Filming of “Wonders of Greece” is scheduled for the end of September at the destinations of Peloponnese (Olympia, Nafplio, Monemvasia, Sparta, Mystras, Epidaurus), Athens (Acropolis and Ancient Agora), Delphi and possibly Pella in Central Macedonia.

The program will initially air on Channel 5, Channel 4 and ITV, and also on BBC 4, between Christmas 2020 and January 2021, a period when UK holidaymakers are usually considering to book their summer holidays.

A campaign, including promotional material of the program (trailers and footage) will also run on the GNTO’s social media channels.

Hughes’ “Wonders of Greece” will follow her TV mini-series “A Greek Odyssey”, currently airing on Channel 5. The show, in which the historian explores the history of Greece from the time of the Ancients to the present day, averaged 1.5 million viewers a week in June in the UK alone and is expected to reach hundreds of millions worldwide (USA, Australia, Asia, etc.).
