ELSTAT: Q2 Turnover Down 94.3% for Greek Accommodation Services

Hit hard by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, Greece’s accommodation services providers recorded a 94.3 percent drop in revenues in the second quarter of 2020 to 104,682,448 euros against 1,846,435,467 euros in the same period in 2019, according to data released on Friday, by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Crete’s Lassithi region marked the largest Q2 decline by 99.5 percent against the same quarter last year, while the Florina regional unit recorded the smallest decrease by 11.7 percent, ELSTAT said.

With regard to F&B (food and beverages) services providers, Q2 turnover dropped by 59.0 percent to 592,729,473 euros compared to 1,446,782,662 euros in the second quarter of 2019.

The regional unit of Thira (Santorini) marked the largest decrease in Q2 turnover by 95.6 percent and Grevena the smallest decline by 33.3 percent.

For the month of June, turnover came to 40,519,666 euros for accommodation services providers down by 95.3 percent against 867,799,654 euros in June 2019.

The regional unit of Ithaki marked the largest decrease in turnover for June by 100.0 percent with the Regional Unit of Pella recording a 29.3 percent increase in the same month.

F&B service providers recorded a 42.2 percent drop in June 2020 turnover to 93,419,378 euros compared to 161,654,963 euros in the same month last year.

Zakynthos regional unit marked the largest decrease in the turnover for the month down by 95.1 percent, with the Regional Unit of Arta recording the biggest rise by 62.8 percent.

In relevant news, the Federation of Entrepreneurs of Corfu Tourism Enterprises, expressed in a statement its discontent with the measures recently announced to restrict the spread of Covid-19, describing them as “unfair and contradictory” and adding that these are “irreparably impacting the F&B, entertainment, and tourism sectors”.
