Athens Airport Breaks Traffic Record with 25.5m Passengers in 2019

Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport (AIA) reached a new record in 2019, at 25.57 million, which is up by 6 percent compared to 24.13 million in 2018.
According to an announcement, this increase was solely driven by the robust growth of the international market by 8.6 percent during the 12-month period. International travelers reached 17.82 million in 2019 compared to 16.4 in 2018.
Meanwhile, the domestic market retained prior-year levels with an increase of 0.3 percent in 2019, at 7.75 passengers.

During December 2019, the airport’s passenger traffic increased by 5.3 percent and reached 1.63 million.
International passengers demonstrated a strong growth at the level of 10.9 percent and reached 1.17 million, against 1 million during the same month of 2018.
Furthermore, domestic air travelers reached 464,277, down by 6.7 percent, which is attributed to the offered domestic services’ reduction compared to the previous year’s respective winter period.
