The Region of Crete makes joint efforts to showcase the lesser known aspects of Crete
In recent years, the Region of Crete has been endeavouring to establish the island as a worldwide-known winter destination.
That has been made possible through intensive efforts such as the Region’s participation in international tourism fairs, advertising insertions in printed press or electronic media, in tune with the Region’s approved tourism promotion strategy.
The relevant indices concerning the hotel occupancy rates in the cities of the island and the increasing numbers of cruise arrivals during the winter prove that foreign visitors wish to explore the hidden beauties of Crete during the winter season.
… Wandering around Crete during the winter is a one-off experience, “a trip in a blessed land”, a land of a unique natural landscape, monumental history and exceptional architecture…
Taking into account the aforementioned facts, the Region of Crete makes joint efforts to showcase the less known aspects of Crete, which we promote in more than 25 international tourism fairs on a yearly basis.
Our target is to associate wintertime activities with the excellent infrastructure of the island, with a view to creating an equally competitive winter tourism product for Crete, in synergy with the local tourism entrepreneurs.
Crete is a safe place of particular geomorphology.
The beauties and thrills it offers are not exhausted during the summer months; its mythology and culture, its monuments, archaeological sites and exquisite museums are tourist magnets all-year-round.
The same applies to Crete’s wealth of Byzantine-era churches and monasteries, which make the island a popular destination for pilgrimage tourism.
In the mountainous areas, the sophisticated agritourism accommodation facilities with their excellent infrastructure offer genuine experiences in the nature of Crete, ranging from trekking and mountaineering to the harvesting of olive crops.
The snow-capped slopes of the White Mountains and Lassithiotika Mountains have proven to be a pole of attraction for winter sports enthusiasts.
Wandering around Crete during the winter is a one-off experience, “a trip in a blessed land”, a land of a unique natural landscape, monumental history and exceptional architecture.
It is life-time experience worth living, for any potential traveler who seeks authentic elements as food for inspiration and creativity.
