Key Tourism Figures 2018: Charalambos Karimalis, President GNTO
Greece’s future is strongly linked to tourism
The phenomenal tourism growth, mobilized and achieved as a result of our national tourism policy in the last four years, has been an essential boost for our national economy’s growth, and elevates tourism’s leading role in how we prepare for the next day and how we shape the future.
With the government’s strong political will, the Ministry of Tourism’s strategic planning, the GNTO’s enhanced role and extroversion and the close cooperation with all stakeholders, Greece has emerged as a successful example of destination management and has the opportunity to excel over the next years in fair, sustainable and balanced growth.
Greece has emerged as a successful example of destination management and has the opportunity to excel over the next years in fair, sustainable and balanced growth.
The GNTO, being the national agency for Greece’s international tourism promotion, and through its offices abroad, has launched on the basis of our national tourism policy, a very effective marketing plan to introduce to the global travel audience all the new opportunities that Greece offers in each region and destination. Our visitors can choose from a wide range of choices to explore the beauty of the landscape, the history and culture, the rich nature, the unique Greek gastronomy and local products. More than 100 islands and our gorgeous mainland emerge and gain fame in the global tourism market.
We promote sustainable and balanced tourism growth, throughout Greece — with respect to the cultural legacy, the environment, the unspoiled character of each destination — and with the engagement of the local community, which is essential to maximize benefits from further tourism growth, both for the visitors and the residents.
Tourism is an engine for growth, and Greece’s biggest investment for the future.
